Who am I

More about Me

Hi there! I’m Anna, a therapist and life coach. My background in psychology includes a bachelor in psychology and criminology, a masters degree in Clinical and Health Psychology (Bangor University, UK) and a masters degree in Clinical Neuropsychology from Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Netherlands.

I use various techniques in my practice, including CBT, mindfulness, somatic practices as well as EFT (emotional freedom technique).

If I had to describe myself in just a few short words, it would probably include things like curious, patient, authentic, sensitive, self-critical, engaged, and adventurous. But that’s just the summary! I was born in Namibia, a country of many beautiful and challenging circumstances in Southern Africa. Having spent my childhood growing up on a farm instilled a deep love and appreciation for animals and nature within me, which still strongly defines who I am and where I feel most at peace today. However, I also adore traveling and have lived in more than 6 countries over my 30 plus years of life and every now and then, cabin fever still settles in and I know that it’s time for a trip! I enjoyed a childhood of many opportunities and privileges, something I feel very grateful for today. However, it was also a childhood where I often felt alone, pressured to perform and emotional disconnected from my family and friend group. Thus, in my mid-twenties, I found myself suffering from depression and some anxiety without wanting to acknowledge and accept it for several years. There were times where I was not able to get out of bed, go to work, dress myself, feed myself and take care of the most basic chores and tasks. I felt endlessly lost, numb and yet, in so much pain, I couldn’t handle it. Suicidal thoughts began to creep in, and that’s when I realised, I needed help. And I got it.

Many years later, I am still on my very own journey of self-discovery and healing and I don’t believe that journey will ever end. I uncover new things about myself all the time and I continue to learn new skills and strategies to support and love myself and build a life that I can thrive in, not just survive. I have learnt to become more consistent in my actions, have more clarity in my path and my goals and am much better at sitting with difficult emotions as they come up. Looking back at the last few years, I have learnt more about myself than any school has ever taught me, I have grown more than I could ever believe possible, and I am much closer to the woman I feel I was always meant to be. I become more like her every day.

Why am I telling you all this? Well, I want you to know more about who I am, not just what I do. My work is my passion, my path and of course it incorporates many aspects of my identity. I truly believe that true connection can only happen when we meet on a level that is vulnerable, honest and authentic. I strive to be that in a personal, as well as a professional setting. For me, sharing knowledge and skills that I have learnt, that I practice and use myself is the best way to ensure that you are gaining insights that are real, practical and manageable. I want you and I to discover your own balance in theoretical knowledge and practical skills and apply it in a way that leads to you growing into that version of yourself that you have always wanted to be.

An arena for venting

While discussing the impact of other’s actions is important in any setting, I am a strong advocate for taking responsibility over our own wellbeing, so consistently blaming everything on external people or circumstances is not something I find helpful and  can assist with

Taking on your problems

In line with taking radical responsibility, my role is to be a guide and a mentor in finding your own resources to build a life worth living and healing the wounds of your past. This does not mean that I am responsible for your healing and wellbeing and I expect my clients to take full accountability for their own power in their own life
TESTIMONIAL

what people say about me?

"Working with Anna has been life changing. She is as equally kind, genuine, and warm as she is insightful, pragmatic and knowledgeable. Anna has a distinct way to make you feel heard and seen. I've never felt judged. I've never felt rushed. I've never been made to feel less than. I feel free to open up completely in a safe space that allows me to tune into my emotions, build awareness and practically work through my issues. I've learnt so much about myself, about happiness and contentment and about being a human being. I'm grateful to have met her and continuously have the opportunity to better myself mental health alongside her guidance and support. If you need help or want to better yourself, don't hesitate. Anna is a rare anomaly that I couldn't recommend highly enough."

"I’ve been working with Anna for several months on a consistent basis. Her counseling has helped me breakthrough some significant issues. Our sessions make me feel understood and validated, and I leave with more clarity, relief, and confidence, with tools I need to manage specific problems. She is able to perceive what needs to be said and done that will give insight and tackle the issues I bring up to her. Most importantly, Anna creates a safe environment where I am confident and secure in sharing what I truly feel. I’ve seen several counselors and therapists in the past, and Anna has gotten me along much further than they have. Highly recommend her expertise, and her style of psychological care to someone who is seeking positive change and healing in their lives."

"Anna has been very good at guiding me to redirect my thoughts in order to help me discover myself and become more authentic in a way that doesn't make me feel pressured to change in any of the certain ways that a normal therapist might try to do. She is also very knowledgeable and skilled in various fields of mental health with tools and techniques that help me cope with difficult situations on my own even when I am not in sessions with her. She has helped me become more emotionally independent and has allowed me to feel more freedom in life even when things are not easy. Last but not least, she is very easy to talk to and extremely gentle when she talks to me; she also gets excited for me for all of my small wins, which makes me feel safe and helps me keep going!"

"When starting, I interviewed five different professionals and decided to go with Anna. No regrets! She has helped me a lot, and I'm happy to continue working together with her <3"
